Designers like Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton have been setting fashion standards for years. Designer items are usually quite pricey and hard to afford for most people, including me. I love the look of designer items but just can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on a belt or thousands on a pair of sweatpants. Recently I saw a Mia Maples(@Miamaples) video where she made designer clothing dupes. You can find her original video here. In the video she made a Gucci belt buckle using modeling clay and paint. I decided I wanted to try this DIY myself and made a few designer logos to use as a belt buckle or just as a broach or pin on bags or hats.
To do this DIY you will need;
Modeling clay (the kind you oven bake)
Wax paper
A cup of water
Gold spray paint
A logo picture for reference
- Choose your logo
I chose two styles of Gucci logos and a Chanel logo for my DIY. I used the traditional Gucci logo and the logo style you typically see on Gucci belts. You can use any logo you like, I thought about using Tory Burch but my clay modeling skills are not that strong.
- Start modeling your logos
This is definitely the hard part. I recommend modeling your logos on the wax paper to make it easier to transfer to your cookie sheet. Start by warming the clay up with your hands create the shape of your logo out of thin strips of clay. Alternatively, you can flatten your clay and cut out your logo using clay tools (Kind of like cutting out holiday cookies).
- Preheat your oven and bake!
Different types of clay require different oven temperatures so make sure to check your clay package for baking instructions. Bake your creations on your cookie sheet and let cool. Be careful not to bake them too long because they could become brittle and break!
- Paint your logos
I wanted gold logos so I used gold spray paint but you can paint your logos any color you want. Make sure you are spray painting outside or in a well ventilated area. If you want an added shiny metallic look on your logos, check your spray paint aisle for a shiny clear sealant or polish. Make sure to spray both sides of your logo and let dry. Once you are done you can glue your logo to a belt buckle or a pin for your completed look.
This project is not meant to ‘fool’ people into thinking you’re wearing designer clothing; this is just a fun DIY to try when you want to add a little extra flair to an outfit without paying the designer price.
